Fueled by the support of 22 organizations and over 300 volunteers, the JCC of Western Monmouth’s 10th annual Monmouth County Mitzvah Day — the county’s largest single day of Jewish community giving — will take place Sunday, Oct. 25.
Contributing to the day will be those who volunteer their time and efforts in planning, scheduling, and taking part in this community undertaking and others who donate items being collected and the use of locations for this “day of caring.”
In addition to the traditional clothing, food, and toy collections and blood drives, there will be new efforts, including a snack drive at Temple Rodeph Torah for overseas troops and a used blanket, towel, and sheet drive at Monmouth Reform Temple to benefit the SPCA. A collection of kosher food will go to the new Centrastate Visitors Food Pantry.
Shelley Feingold, the JCC’s operations & outreach director, encouraged “everyone to participate in this wonderful day of caring and sharing with our neighbors. Volunteer with any of the participating organizations, donate food and toys to the drives, give blood — every little bit helps those in need.”
The day’s special events and programs will include
- Mitzvah Day Fair at Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., offering 50 volunteer opportunities in 10 categories.
- Entertainment and programs for senior adults at the Brookside Assisted Living Community in Freehold, sponsored by the Freehold Jewish Center and Solomon Schechter Academy of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, and talent shows at The Atria, sponsored by Temple Beth Miriam, and at Sunrise Assisted Living in Marlboro, sponsored by Temple Rodeph Torah.
