NEWMAN

Beatrice (Resnick) and Irving Newman of Sarasota, Fla., will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 30, 2011, at the Don Cesar Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla. Both Newark natives, the couple have also lived in Verona, North Caldwell, Roseland, and Long Beach Island. After meeting at Rutgers in 1946 and becoming engaged after a three-week courtship, they were married later that year by Rabbi Joachim Prinz of Temple B’nai Abraham in Newark.

Mr. Newman earned his BS degree in 1943 from the University of Newark (now Rutgers University) while on a military leave during World War II. He served as a 2nd Lt. bombardier on the B-17 Flying Fortress. He worked in the printing and packaging industries for 60 years, eventually forming his own company, Newman Sales Co., which provided printing and packaging materials for local and national manufacturers. Mrs. Newman worked for 26 years as office manager of a precision manufacturing company in Fairfield.

Members of Congregation Beth Ahm in Verona since 1951, the couple remained active in synagogue and community affairs before moving to LBI in 1996. Mr. Newman served a term as synagogue president in the mid-1960s. They have two children, Leonard and his wife Marie of Denver and Jeff and his wife Eileen of Cedar Knolls, as well as a granddaughter, Laura.
