Unthinkable

Re “No country for those born in Jerusalem,”

While Andrew Silow-Carroll’s diagnosis of the issue in “No country for those born in Jerusalem” (Aug. 18) was on the mark, I disagree with his conclusion that leaving out Israel on American birth certificates for those born in Jerusalem should be tolerated “if it means keeping the slim hope for peace alive.”

Jerusalem will always be part of Israel under any scenario of peace negotiations. Accordingly, to even consider that Jerusalem’s status as part of Israel is subject to a “hope for peace” is unthinkable and self-defeating.
