Herman Starr

Herman Starr, 88, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Nov. 13, 2011. Born in Passaic, he lived in Clifton and Monroe Township before moving to Delray Beach 20 years ago.

Mr. Starr was the owner of Acme Scrap Metal in Paterson for 50 years, retiring about 10 years ago.

He was a graduate of Upsala College, East Orange, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving his country during World War II

He was a member of Clifton Jewish Center, The Passaic Hebrew Verein, the Knights of Pythias Passaic Lodge, and Jewish War Veterans.

Predeceased by his wife, Bernice (Len), he is survived by two sons, Jerry of Maplewood and Steven of Little Falls; two sisters, Jeanette Wallenberg and Ruth Yarmuth, both of Boca Raton, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 16 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish War Veterans.
