Martin Allen

Martin Allen, 82, of Westfield died July 9, 2012. Born in New York City, he lived in South Plainfield before moving to Westfield 42 years ago.

Mr. Allen was employed as a senior electrical engineer for AT&T in Newark for many years before his retirement in 1994.

He earned a BS degree in physics from City College of New York in 1953. Since 1948, Mr. Allen was an amateur radio operator and managed the MARS (Military Amateur Radio Station) at the Pentagon during his tour of duty in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers and a member of the Tri-County Radio Association.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel of Scotch Plains.

He was a champion swimmer and also enjoyed bike riding.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Rothbard); his daughter, Robyn Hennigan of Cape Cod, Mass.; his son, Michael of Long Valley; a brother, Jules of Naples, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Services were held July 11 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Association.
