Selma Stat

Selma Sally Stat, 89, of Aberdeen died June 15, 2012. Born in the Bronx, she resided in Hazlet before moving to Aberdeen 12 years ago.

Prior to retiring in 1996, Mrs. Stat and her husband, Ralph, were owners of Costa’s Confectionary in Keyport for 40 years.

She was a founding member of the Bayshore Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and served as its president. She also was a member of the Keyport Chamber of Commerce and was named its first “Woman of the Year.” She was a member of B’nai B’rith and was a lifetime member of the Matawan-Aberdeen chapter of Hadassah, achieving recognition as a Woman of Valor.    

She was a congregant of Temple Shalom, Aberdeen, serving for many years on the Caring Committee.

Predeceased by her husband; her son, William; and her son-in-law, Martin Holiday, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Holiday of New York City; a brother, Morris Lowenthal; a sister, Sylvia Percell; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 18 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen, NJ  07747.
