Sylvia Sobel

Sylvia Sobel (Abarbanel), 95, of Monroe Township died June 2, 2012. She was born in Jersey City and lived there as well as in Paterson and Fair Lawn before moving to Monroe 25 years ago.

Mrs. Sobel worked as a saleswoman and fitter at Bonds Department Store and Bamberger’s.

She was a domestic Red Cross volunteer during World War II, supporting returning troops.

She was a member of Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Gorelick and Sue Gottesman of East Windsor; a brother, Saul Abarbanel of Irvine, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her caregiver and friend, Jaunette Andrea Fennell.

Services were held June 4 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapel, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to American Friends of Magen David Adom, 352 7th Ave., Suite 400, New York, NY 10001 (http://www.afmda.org).
