Marlboro Cantor an apparent suicide
The Star-Ledger is reporting the suicide of Marlboro Englishtown resident Alan Smolen. We profiled Cantor Smolen as he began his new job at Congregation Agudath Achim Freehold Jewish Center in August.

We will all miss Alan’s giant spirit, heart and soul. His love of hazzanut was boundless and his generous spirit to all was profound. Words are inadequate to describe what all who knew him are feeling.
