Upset over calls for ultra-Orthodox men to serve in the Israeli army, Sephardi yeshivas have decided to protest — by cancelling their own summer vacations.

[Former Chief Sephardic Rabbi Ovadia] Yosef said Saturday night that Torah study and prayer should continue uninterrupted over the government’s decision to formulate a law that would draft haredi Orthodox men into the military or national service, according to reports. He said the haredi Orthodox were in a “state of emergency.”

In other news, an Israeli kidnapper demanded a $1 million ransom or he would ”shoot himself in the head.”
