What we talk about when we talk about Daf
I wrote a column this week on Yeshivish and other Jewish-English dialects. A great example of Yeshivish came across my desk today:
May the studying of the Daf Notes be a zechus for his neshamah and may his soul find peace in Gan Eden and be bound up in the Bond of life.
Translation: This editonĀ of Daf Notes, a guide to the daily Talmud reading, is in memory of XX. May today’s study bring honor to his soul so that it might find peace in heaven, where all the souls of the righteous are in safekeeping.
