Caution: Slippery slope ahead
Isn’t it tough enough to be Olympic-caliber ice skaters from Israel? Does the brother-and-sister team of Roman and Alexandra “Sasha” Zaretsky need to be subjected to further difficulties for it?
According to a report in today’s Star-Ledger, the skaters and their coach, Galit Chalt, are suing the Ice House, an rink in Hackensack, because the facility allegedly barred them on the basis of the duo’s Israeli citizenship.
According to the article by Russell Ben-Ali, one of the rink’s associates told them he “didn’t want to work under the Israeli flag.”

Sad to hear the Zaretskys are facing this battle. They’re two of the nicest folks you could meet — unfailingly friendly and open. Roman coaches my daughter at Floyd Hall Arena in Little Falls and could not be more patient with her or any of the other kids (or parents). They would be an asset to any rink. We’re lucky they skate for Israel!
