Playing catch up

The holidays are great but it can really play havoc on one’s schedule. We haven’t had a “normal” seek around here since before the High Holy Days. So here goes:

Yuri Foreman is getting ready to put his perfect record of 26-0 — as well as his NABF light middleweight title — on the line as he takes on “Irish” James Moore (16-1)  on Saturday night, Dec. 13 at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

“Back in the day,” you just know a match like this would bring out ethnic tensions. This was, in fact, the subject of that classic film, The Jazz Boxer, in which Kirk Douglas plays a Jewish kid from the Lower East Side who struggles to reconcile his skills in the ring with his desire to be a cantor, much to the chagrin of his assimilated family.

(Well, if it’s not a real movie, it should have been.)
