Sung to the tune of that holiday classic that will not be named.
“The Jewish Jordan” was signed by the Maccabi Haifa Heat Basketball Club of the Israeli Premier League earlier this year. He returns to the States as part of the “Haifa Hoops for Kids” Goodwill Tour, a series of speaking engagements and basketball clinics for Jewish day schools, JCCs, and synagogues throughout the East Coast. Goodman will talk to young people about sports, reciprocity, Judaism, and Israel.
Programs will take place at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County on Dec. 17, 2008 (with an additional appearance by Goodman at the school’s annual Sports Night 2008 dinner); the Manhattan Jewish Experience Young Jewish Professionals Shabbat Dinner on Dec. 19; the West Side Institutional Synagogue, Dec. 20; “Haifa Hoops for Kids” Hannukah Clinic at JCC MetroWest in West Orange on Dec. 21; the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School in Baltimore on Dec. 22; and the Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls in Teaneck, NJ on Dec. 24.
All proceeds go to the “Haifa Hoops for Kids” Program, which benefits underprivileged children in the Greater Haifa area.
The program is a joint initiative of the Heat and United Jewish Communities of MetroWest, NJ that works with charitable organizations, community centers, and schools in Haifa to distribute game tickets to underprivileged children. Donations are fully tax deductible. For more information on “Haifa Hoops for Kids,” visit ujcnj.org/haifahoops.
This story ran last year, when Goodman signed with the Baltimore Nighthawks of the Premiere basketball League. For more on Goodman, visit the official Haifa Heat website.
