So long, Scott, it’s been good to know yuh
Mets fans recently bid farewell to Scott Schoeneweis, who was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league pitcher Connor Robertson.
The left-handed Schoeneweis — a native of Long Branch, NJ — signed the Mets as free agent prior to the 2007 season. In two years with the team, he compiled a record of two wins, eight loses, and what seems like 457 blown saves. He took the loss in the last game at Shea Stadium, which knocked the Mets out of the post-season for the second straight year.
Of course, he did have some good games, too, but it always seem like he imploded in the worst possible scenarios. Unfortunately, we’ll most often remember him like this:

But life doesn’t revolve around baseball. Schoeneweis, a cancer survivor, also gave back to the community, although he didn’t make a lot of noise about it. In 2007, he put in an appearance at a Chabad summer camp to talk about baseball.
He was also part of a small group of Mets — including Shawn Green, Aaron Sele, and David Newhan — who visited the U.S Holocaust Museum during a road trip to Washington, DC in 2007.
