Two men, two votes

I asked our friends, veterans sportswriters Maury Allen and Ira Berkow, if they would share their votes for the recent Baseball Hall of Fame elections.

Maury Allen

Allen cast his ballot for Rickey Henderson (who was elected in his first year of eligibility), Tommy John (the final year for him), Jack Morris, Andre Dawson, Bert Blyleven, and Tim Raines.”I did not vote for [Jim] Rice” he wrote in an e-mail. “‘Short career, not dominant, Fenway Park hitter, and nasty though that shouldn’t count.” Despite Allen’s omission, Rice joins Henderson as this year’s inductees.

Ira Berkow

Berkow said his choices included Henderson, Dawson, Blyleven, Morris, Raines, Mark McGuire, and Alan Trammell.

Allen also discussed his Hall of Fame decisions with NJ Jewish News following the 2007 elections.
