Haifa Heat burn Tel Aviv rivals in upset
Haifa’s Davon Jefferson, who starred at the University of Southern California last season with current NBA player O.J. Mayo, scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in front of sold out home crowd on April 12 as the Heat extinguished the powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv in an Israeli Premier League game, 79-76.
The victory was a David vs. Goliath upset, considering the Heat had not defeated the 47-time champion Maccabi Tel Aviv since 2000.
The victory earned Haifa home-court advantage in the Israeli Premier League Playoffs and ended Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 12-game Premier League winning streak.
