JML Update, April 16

On the ups: Ian Kinsler etched his name in the record books by becoming only the third player in Major League history to get six hits and hit for the cycle (single, double, triple, and home run) in the same game. He is also just the second JML to hit for the cycle, according to Bob Wechsler (Day-by-Day in Jewish Sports History). The home run was his  third of the year and he drove in four in the Rangers’ 19-6 pummeling of the Baltimore Orioles. Players must love it when they have a hand in beating their old team. Jason Marquis must have that feeling right now. He improved to 2-0 by beating the Chicago Cubs, 5-2, with five hits and one run in seven innings. He’s also no slouch at the plate: he his two-run single in the second boosted his batting average to .600.

On the downs: None today. Good work, guys.

Pareve: Kevin Youkilis went 1-4 with a run scored in the Red Sox 8-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. Gabe Kapler hdt one hit in the Rays’ 4-3 loss to the Yankees. Ryan Braun had a single and a walk in the Brewers’ 9-3 victory over the Reds. Scott Schoeneweis pitched a scoreless ninth in the D’backs 12-7 loss to the Cardinals.
