JML Update: Games of April 22

On the ups: Ian Kinsler had only one hit last night, but it was a big one: a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Rangers a 5-4 win over the Orioles. It was his fifth of the year to go along with 16 runs batted in. Not bad for a lead-off man. John Grabow pitched another scoreless inning in the Pirates’ 3-2 win over the Marlins. He has not allowed a run all year (six games).

On the downs:

Pareve: Gabe Kapler is 3-5 with two doubles in his last two games, raising his average to the .200 mark. Hey, it’s progress. Unfortunately, the Rays lost both games, to the White Sox and Mariners. And talk about strength in defeat: Ryan Braun had five hits — including two homers — and four RBI in last night’s 11-4 Brewers’ loss to the Phillies. He’s now batting an even .300. The Twins and Red Sox were rained out of their game, so there was no Kevin Youkilis-Craig Breslow match-up.

Playing catch-up: Jason Marquis took his first loss of the season on Monday night, giving up six runs in five innings as the Rockies lost to the Diamondbacks, 6-3. Youkilis has a single and three walks in the Sox’ 12-1 pasting of the Orioles on Patriots Day (love those 11 a.m. starts).

  • It was great finding your blog! I’ve been following Jewish baseball players like a meshugenah since I was a kid in the 50′s. I thought I was a one-of-a-kind watching all of the games all hours of the day and night cheering on the members of the tribe.

(Maybe you already have but I haven’t gone through your site extensively but -) You may want to add Jason Hirsch, Brad Ausmus, and Ryan Spilborghs to your daily roundup.
