JML Update

On the ups: Kevin Youkilis continues to impress. His dramatic walk-off home run against the Yankees was the first step for e Red Sox sweep of the weekend series. You is leading all Major League hitters with a .439 batting average.  Ian Kinsler had a 1-13 “bump” last week (he’s still batting .359 after an o-5 yesterday), but came back strong in Saturday’s win over the Orioles, hitting his sixth and seventh home runs of the year, good for a second place tie in the league.  Teammate Scott Feldman picked up his first win of 2009 in that game, allowing just four hits in five innings, lowering his earned run average more than four points, to 7.71. Jason Marquis picked up his third win against one loss as he beat the LA Dodgers 10-4. He’a slo handy with the bat, hitting .500 (4-8 with a double and three RBI). John Grabow pitched two more scoreless innings (10 on the season) in the Pirates’ 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres. In what’s becoming his weekly start, Brad Ausmus had two more hits, including a doube; which brought his average down to .417.

On the downs: Ryan Braun went 0-4 in the Brewres’ loss to the Astros yesterday. By the way, his photo graces the cover the the team’s current media guide). Gabe Kapler was 0-2 with a walk as the Rays lost to th Athletics, 7-1. He’s still hovering around the .200 mark.

Pareve: Craig Breslow pitched 1 1/3 socreless innings in the Twins’ 4-2 win over the Indians Sunday.   Hey, it’s progress. Unfortunately, the Rays lost both games, to the White Sox and Mariners.
