The Farmar Report
The Los Angeles Lakers and Jordan Farmar, the lone MOT in the NBA, have advanced to the second round of playoffs in the Western Division, beating the Utah Jazz 105-96 to take the opening series in five games. They will facethe winners of the Portland Trailbalzers-Houston Rockets series; that affair could be over tonight, as Houston leads 3-1.
During the regular season, Farmer — in his second year with Los Angeles — average 18+ minutes, 2.4 assista and 6.4 points per game. In the first round, however, he appeared in just two games for a total of four points.
The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles published this in-depth profile about him recently.
Indeed, a sport once dominated by Jews now counts only one MOT at the highest level. And Farmar, who doesn’t celebrate Jewish holidays and considers himself spiritual but not religious, is no Sandy Koufax. At the same time, though, Farmar doesn’t shy away from his Jewish heritage, from the mixed racial and ethnic identity to which it contributes or from the pride that many Jews take in having their own hoop hero.
Here’s more on Farmar from the Laker’s website. And, just for the heck of it, here’s the team’s media guide.
