JML Update: Games of May 13
On the ups: John Grabow (Pirates) pitched a perfect eighth inning, with one strikeout, as Pittsburgh beat the NL Central-leading Cardinals, 5-2.
On the downs: Jason Marquis (Rockies) had a rocky outing against the Astros. He allowed 10 hits and a walk and nine earned runs in just 3.2 innings, as Colorado lost a 15-11 slugfest. It was his second straight loss, dropping his record to 4-3. Scott Schoeneweis (Diamondbacks) walked the only batter to face him — who eventually scored — in Arizona’s 10-3 drubbing at the hands of Cincinnati.
Still bothered by a sore oblique muscle, Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5. His absence from the lineup has meant a drop out from the AL leaders, since he no longer has the requisite plate appearances to qualify. Say a mishaberah for him.

Pareve: Ryan Braun (Brewers) was hitless in three at-bats (with a walk), in Milwaukee’s 8-6 victory of the Marlins. Braun is in the top 10 for NL “Triple Crown” categories (home runs, RBI, and batting average). Ian Kinsler (Rangers) was 0-3 with three walks in Texas’ 11-inning 6-5 win over the Mariners.
DNP: Gabe Kapler (Rays), Scott Feldman (Rangers), Brad Ausmus (Dodgers), Craig Breslow (Twins), Josh Whitesell (Diamondbacks)
