None of the first basemen for the Arizona Diamondbacks had been doing very well. When veteran Tony Clark went on the 15-day disabled list on May 6, Josh Whitesell got the call from AAA Reno. Must be something about the bag, because Whitesell didn’t do anything to distinguish himself, either, collecting just three hits in 26 at bats. He was sent back to the minors on May 20 but when Chad Tracy, the other first sacker, went on the DL on May 30, Whitesell was recalled. In three games since his return, he’s 1-4 with a double, walk, and two runs batted in.

Here’s hoping he can stick around a bit longer.
