On the ups: John Grabow (Pirates) matched his longest outing of the season — two innings — striking out two and keeping the Braves at Bay so Pittsburgh could take the win, 3-2. Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox), hit his 10th homer of the year as Boston beat the Yankees for the seventh straight time this year, 6-5. He now has enough at bats to qualify for second in the AL in batting average (.350).
On the downs:
Pareve: Ryan Braun (Brewers) had a double, run scored, RBI, and two ealks, but Milwaukee dropped a 4-2 decision to the Rockies. Craig Breslow (Athletics), pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning in Oakland’s 6-3 loss to the Twins.
DNP: Gabe Kapler (Rays); Jason Marquis (Rockies); Ian Kinsler and Scott Feldman (Texas, postponed); Scott Schoeneweis and Josh Whitesell (Diamondbacks); Aaron Poreda (White Sox); Brad Ausmus (Dodgers)
