JML Update: Games of June 30

On the ups: Jason Marquis (Rockies) picked up his NL-leading 10th win in a masterful two-hit shutout over the Dodgers, 3-0. He threw just 86 pitches and drove in two of the Rockies’ three runs with a seventh-inning single. The complete game — the second for Marquis this year — took just two hours and 16 minutes. Ryan Braun (Brewers) went 3-4 including a bases-clearing double which helped to beat the hapless Mets, 6-3. Braun’s hit his extra base job to left as the runners scurried home. He advanced to third on an errant throw to the plate and then scored when another throw sailed past the thid baseman. John Grabow (Pirates) picked up his 13th hold — good for third place in the National League — as Pittsburgh Shut out the Cubs, 3-0.  Ian Kinsler (Rangers) led of a Texas 9-5 win over the Angels with his 19th homer of the year. Teammate Scott Feldman improved his record to 6-2, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings.

On the downs:

Pareve: Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) had three hits, including a run-scoring double and a two-run homer (his 19th), but is wasn’t enough as the Orioles score five in the seventh and five in the eighth to overcome a nine run deficit and take the game 11-10.  Gabe Kapler (Rays) entered the game as a defensive replacement in Tampa’s 4-1 victory over the Blue Jays. Scott Schoeneweis (Diamondbacks) allowed a hit to the only batter he faced as Arizona beat the Reds, 6-2.

DNP: Aaron Poreda (White Sox); Brad Ausmus (Dodgers); Craig Breslow (As); Sam Fuld (Cubs); Ryan Sadowski (Giants)
