JML update: Games of July 23

On the ups: This may seem an odd inclusion, but consider it a moral victory. In Mark Buehrle’s perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Gabe Kapler hit a monster shot that was kept in the ballpark by a great play by Dewayne Wise, who entered the game in the ninth inning as a defensive replacement. The specific play comes in at about the four minute mark:

Another “up”: Josh Whitesell (Diamondbacks) was 1-3 with a run, walk, and RBI in Arizona’s 11-4 win over the Pirates.

On the downs: John Grabow (Pirates) had a rough outing against the Dbacks: in just 2/3 of an inning, he gave up a walk and two hits, the final for a three-run homer.

Pareve: Craig Breslow (As) did his job, putting out the fire in the fifth inning against the Yankees, but it was too little, too late as Oakland dropped the game 6-3. Breslow pitched a ttal of 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out a batter.

DNP: Everyone else.
