For the week ending Aug. 9
Ryan Braun (Brewers) continues to put up MVP numbers: 10 hits in 30 at bats, including three doubles, a home run, and nine runs batted in.
Jason Marquis(Rockies) picked up his eighth loss of the season, giving up five runs on eight hits and five walks against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 8. Scott Feldman (Rangers) had a similar pitching line — four runs, eight hits, three walks — but earned his 11th victory of the season, against the Angels. Teammate Ian Kinsler remains on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. A story on MLB.com puts his return at Aug. 13.
Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) cooled off a bit as the Yankees swept Boston in four games — he had only five hits in his last 23 at bats — yet he remains among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He played in his first game as a leftfielder sine 2006, a nod to the recent trade for first baseman Casey Kotchman.
Josh Whitesell (Diamondbacks) had only one hit in 11 at bats, but it was a home run, the first of the season and second of his career.
Craig Breslow (As) tossed one inning in each of three games, allowing one run.
Sam Fuld (Cubs) appeared in give games, mostly as a defensive replacement. He was hitless in three at bats. Teammate John Grabow had two scoreless relief outings.
Scott Schoeneweis (Diamondbacks) continues to struggle.. He appeared in two games during the week, giving up four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning in the Diamondbacks’ 9-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Aug. 9, jumping his earned run average from a bad 6.63 to an even worse 8.24.
Brad Ausmus (Dodgers) made two starts, cracking two hits in six at bats.
Gabe Kapler (Rays) appeared in four games, going 2-10.
Ryan Sadowski (Giants) did not appear in a game during the week.
