JML Update: Games of Aug. 24

A light schedule last night, so I’ll dispense with the formalities.

Ryan Braun had just one hit in five at bats, but it was a good ‘un: a two-run blast that started a six-run inning to help the Brewers beat the Nationals, 7-1. That gives Braun 27 homers and 91 runs batted in, so he seems a lock to reach the 30-100-.300 plateau for the first time in his young career.

Kevin Youkilis was 2-4 with a run scored and another driven in as the Red Sox outlasted the White Sox, 14-8.

Jason Marquis pitched well enough to win, but he didn’t. He tossed eight innings against the Giants, allowing one ruin on six hits and two walks while striking out five, but left the game with the score tied, 1-1. In the 14th inning, San Fran took the lead, 4-1, but in a classic comeback, the Rockies scored one run then sent the happy fans home with a walk-off grand slam, sealing the deal, 6-4.

Gabe Kapler came into the Rays-Blue Jays game (Rays won, 12-7) as a defensive replacement.

Craig Breslow did not appear in the As-Mariners game.

Tonight, Ian Kinsler and the Rangers take on the Yankees, Youklis and the Sox continue their series against Chicago, and Braun and the Brew crew face the Reds.
