Among the Jewish players at the U. S. Open:
In first round play:
- 20th-ranked Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) beat Gail Brodsky (US), 6-4, 6-4.
- In men’s doubles, Max Mirnyi and Andy Ram (ISR) beat Eric Butorac (USA) and Scott Lipsky (USA, 6-3, 6-1. Jesse Levine (USA) and Ryan Sweeting (USA) beat Johan Brunstrom (SWE) and Jean-Julien Rojer (AHO), 6-4, 7-5. In women’s doubles, the team of Gisela Dulko (ARG) and Shahar Peer (ISR) beat Petra Kvitova (CZE) and Olga Savchuk (UKR), 6-4, 6-4.
- Wayne Odesnik (USA) and Michael Shabaz (USA) fell to John Isner (USA) and Sam Querrey (USA), 6-3, 6-4. The eighth-ranked team of Bruno Soares (BRA) and Kevin Ullyett ( ZIM) beat Jeff Coetzee (RSA) and Jonathan Erlich (ISR), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In second round play:
- Jesse Levine (US) beat Teimuraz Gabashvili (RUS), 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.
- Tomas Berdych (CZE) beat Wayne Odesnik (US), 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
- 11th-ranked Fernando Gonzalez (CHI) beat countryman Nicholas Massu, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
- Kevin Kim (US) beat Dudi Sela (ISR) 6-3, 0-6, 6-2, 6-2.
