JML update: Games of Sept. 7
On the ups: John Grabow (Cubs) earned his 22nd hold of the season in the Cubs’ 4-2 victory over the Pirates. The loss gave the Bucs a record 18 consecutive seasons with a losing record.
On the downs: Gabe Kapler (Rays) was 0-3 as the starting right fielder in Tampa’s 4-1 loss to the Yankees.
Pareve: Sam Fuld (Cubs) entered the Pirate game as a defensive replacement. Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) drove in his team’s only run in a 5-1 loss to the White Sox. Jason Marquis (Rockies) takes the hill tonight against the Reds.
DNP: Ryan Braun (Brewers) skipped ysterday’s game under mysterious circumstances, mwa-ha-ha. Brad Ausmus (Dodgers). Ian Kinsler and Scott Feldman (Rangers, rained out). Craig Breslow (As, no game). Scott Shoeneweis (Diamondbacks) remains on the DL, most likely for the rest of the year. (Former) Teammate Josh Whitesell was returned to the minors at the end of last month. And still no word on the status of pitcher Ryan Sadowski, who was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 2.
