JML update: Games of Sept. 8

On the ups: Welcome back, Aaron Poreda, who was recalled yesterday by the San Diego Padres. Poreda made his ML debut earlier this season with the Chicago White Sox. Used sparingly in relief, the 6′-6″ lefty posted good numbers: he pitched 11 innings, striking out 12, while allowing nine hits (no home runs) and eight bases on balls. His lone win came in a 6-5 decision against the LA Dodgers on June 25. (More on Poreda here and here.)

Jason Marquis (Rockies) bounced back from a rocky start against the Mets last week. he threw 7.1 innings of four hit ball, striking out seven and allowing just one run to pick up his 15th win of the season and keeping Colorado in the lead for the NL wild card slot.

Ian Kinsler (Rangers) had no homers or stolen bases in the 11-9 win over the Indians. He did, however, have two hits — including his 25th double — scored two runs, and walked.

Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) had just one hit in three at bats (plus a walk) in Boston’s 10-0 shellacking of the Orioles, but it was a home run, his 25th of the year. He also walked before getting the rest of the night off.

Craig Breslow (As) tossed 1.2 innings (one hit, one walk) in Oakland’s 11-3 win over the White Sox.

On the downs: Gabe Kapler (Rays) entered the 3-2 loss to the Yankees as a pinch hitter and remained in the game, going0-2.

Pareve: John Grabow and Sam Fuld (Cubs) participated in the 9-4 win over the Pirates. Grabow pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing a walk; Fuld entered the game as a late inning defensive replacement. Ryan Braun (Brewers) returned to action, cracking his 32nd double in Milwaukee’s 3-2 loss to the cardinals. Both he and Youkilis are batting .311.

DNP: Brad Ausmus (Dodgers), Scott Feldman (Rangers)
