A grand-slam, of sorts
Tennis and golf have their quartet of grand slam events. And of course, a grand slam in baseball is a bases loaded home run.
But apparently there’s also a grand slam in the entertainment field.
According to an item posted on the Jewish Sports Collectors group on Yahoo, a piece in the Sept. 21 issue of Newsweek features the elite eight– including five Jews — who are the living members of an exclusive club that have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.
Barbra Streisand (17: 4 Emmys, 10 Grammys, 2 Oscars, 1 Tony)
Mike Nichols (13: 4 Emmys, 1 Grammy, 1 Oscar, 7 Tonys)
Marvin Hamlisch (12: 4 Emmys, 4 Grammys, 3 Oscars, 1 Tony)
Mel Brooks (11: 4 Emmys, 3 Grammys, 1 Oscar, 3 Tonys)
Jonathan Tuncik (4: 1 Emmys, 1 Grammy, 1 Oscar, 1 Tony)
Whoopi Goldberg (5: 2 Emmys, 1 Grammy, 1 Oscar, 1 Tony) does not qualify, despite the name.
