Shalom, Tamir

In this case, it means goodbye.

From Marty Appel:

Tamir Goodman, tabbed by Sports Illustrated as the “Jewish Jordan” while a high school player, announces his retirement from the Maccabi Haifa team of the Israel Professional League.  Goodman  is an Orthodox Jew who couldn’t play on the Sabbath.  His college, Towson State, adjusted their schedule to accommodate the Baltimore native. He will guide the charitable program “Haifa Hoops for Kids” for club owner Jeffrey Rosen.

At his retirement announcement at the Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, he is greeted by fellow Jewish athletes Art Shamsky (of the 1969 New York Mets), and undefeated junior welterweight boxer Dmitriy Salita, also an Orthodox Jew.
