JML update: Games of Sept. 22

On the ups: Craig Breslow (As) picked up his 15th hold, with 1.1 innings of work, giving up a hit and striking out a batter as Oakland pummeled the Rangers, 9-1.

On the downs: Gabe Kapler (0-3 with a strikeout) and the rest of the Rays; they were eliminated from wild card contention last night with a 4-3 loss to the Mariners. Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) was 0-4 with two strikeouts as Boston fell to the Royals, 5-1. The Sox are still seven games up on the Texas Rangers for the wild card. Ian Kinsler was 0-4 and made his second error in two games. Aaron Poreda (Padres) gave up three walks and a hit and allowed one run to score in just .2 innings as Colorado withstood a last-inning threat to beat San Diego 11-10.

Pareve: Sam Fuld (Cubs) was a defensive replacement in Chicago’s 7-2 win over Milwaukee. Ryan Braun (Brewers) was 1-3 and drove in one of the two runs for his team.

DNP: Brad Ausmus (Dodgers), Scott Feldman (Rangers), Jason Marquis (Rockies), Scott Schoeneweis (Diamondbacks)
