JML Update
The holiday necessitated a break from the usual updates so let’s get cracking.
Mazel tov to Ian Kinsler (Rangers), who joins the ranks of the elite 30/30 club.
Kinsler hit the milestone on Sept. 25, leading the Rangers to a 9-3 win over the Rays. (Gabe Kapler homered for Tampa Bay, making it a rare occasion when MOTs went yard in the same game).
Kinsler hit No. 31 the following night, once again helping his team to a victory, this time 15-3.
In other “major” news:
- Kapler and Kevin Youkilis homered in last night’s games. Youkilis hit two (27 for the season to go with 90 RBI), driving in three of the Red Sox’ five in a losing cause to the Blue Jays, who scored 11 in a rain-shortened seven-inning affair. Kapler’s (8) came in a 7-6 win over the Orioles.
- Youkilis was 1-3 with a walk in Sunday afternoon’s 4-2 loss to the Yankees. It was a game originally scheduled for 1:05, moved to 8:05 for ESPN’s Sunday Night Game of the Week, and then returned to its original start time after a hue and cry from Jewish fans.
- In fact, there were no games played during the holiday. The contests on Sunday were all afternoon starts, and Monday’s were all played after the end of Yom Kippur.
- Brad Ausmus (Dodgers) started in last night’s 11-1 loss to the Pirates. With 1,948 games, Ausmus is just three behind Shawn Green’s record 1,951. With five games lef to the season, there’s been some speculation over whether Dodgers’ brass will stick him in a few more times than usual to reach the mark.
- Ryan Braun (Brewers) hit his 30th home run in a 7-5 win over the Phillies on Sept. 26. It’s the third time since his rookie year that he’s hit 30 or more dingers.
- Scott Feldman (Rangers) goes for his 18th win tonight against the Angels and Jason Marquis (Rockies) seeks to shake off three straight losses (and four out of five) against Braun and the Brew Crew.
- Sam Fuld (Cubs) has four hits and two walks in his last three outings.
