A Korner korrection

Received this email earlier in the week from the proud father of Geoff Schwartz, a rookie with the NFL Carolina Panthers. Seems I erred in my report of participants in games of Sept. 27-28.

Lee Schwartz wrote that he

received a Google Alert linking me to your blog re: activity of Jewish NFL players this past weekend.  Geoff was noted as having not played for Carolina in Monday night’s game.  He did actually.  Unfortunately Carolina only scored once, so Geoff only appeared once . . . on the PAT squad.  At this point he’s the second string right tackle but is on the field for all PATs and FGs.

That’s the problem with football for some positions: a lack of stats as evidence of participation. The same could be said for pro hockey. At least in basketball, you get listed in the box score even if you don’t touch the rock.

So good luck to Geoff and here’s hoping we see much more of him in games to come.

  • As much as I take pride in following Jewish athlethes, even only a Jewish Dad of an athlete could take pride in pointing out that his son was on the field just during the PATs. Of course I understand though, and it’s kind of neat that Dad is paying that close attention. I wish Geoff Schwartz a long and fruitful career.

  • Shame on you, Ari. You forgot to mention Jewish MOMS. :)

  • Good point, Ron. Love the blog by the way. Hope all is well with you.
