Free Jews, free Jews!
In this case, it means the baseball free agency market.
Among the Jews on the market:
- Jason Marquis, Rockies: The 31-year-old righty had a great first half, but faltered after the All-Star break, finishing with a record of 15-13, tying his career high in wins. The first rumor I heard had him “coming home” to New York, with the Mets.
- Scott Schoeneweis, Diamondbacks: Had abysmal numbers in 2009, but no one can blame him, given his terrible loss. Situational lefties seem to pitch forever, so look for him to catch on with someone in 2010.
- Brad Ausmus, Dodger: A 40-year-old backup catcher? Maybe if he was Ivan Rodriguez or, going back a generation, Carlton Fisk. But Ausmus, who basically played just once a week, might already be looking for a non-playing role, perhaps taking a managerial position in the minors.

Don’t forget John Grabow. Looks like the Cubs will sign him to a 2-year deal.
Thanks, Josh. Since I wrote the entry last night, Grabow filed, which is why his name did not appear on the SI.com site.
