Lieberman, a former Olympian and member of the WNBA, was named coach of the Dallas Maverick’s developmental franchise. This marks the first time a woman has been hired as a head coach by an NBA team.
Maybe I’m not reading it right — and I certainly don’t mean to detract from the happy news – but people are treating this like she’ll be coaching Erick Dampier, Jason Kidd, and Shawn Marion when in fact, she’s coaching in the minors. While this is indeed a big step, it will be interesting to see if/when a woman ever actually coaches on the highest level.
