Second episode of Inside Israeli Basketball airs
Episode 2 of Inside Israeli Basketball features segments on a day in the life of Maccabi Haifa Heat center Ben Strong, the first Native American to play in Israel; a profile of Jewish American guard Todd Golden, who made aliya; and a look at Tamir Goodman’s adjustment to retirement.
Goodman, dubbed The Jewish Jordan by sports Illustrated while he was still in high school, is now heavily involved with assisting underprivileged children in Israel through Haifa Hoops for Kids, a joint initiative between Maccabi Haifa and United Jewish Communities of MetroWest, NJ, that distributes Maccabi Haifa VIP tickets to underprivileged and special needs children in Israel who otherwise could not afford to attend a professional basketball game.
Additional segments include an inside look at how the Israeli Basketball Super League features some of the best competition in the world, as well as how Maccabi Haifa’s American players are adjusting to Israel.
The program will be aired Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 6:30 pm on SUN Sports; Thursday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. on Versus at 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on JLTV, with repeat episodes throughout the month.
The 30-minute magazine program about the Heat is aired monthly in the U.S. on Comcast, Versus, the YES Network, SUN Sports, and Jewish Life Television.
As of this writing, the Maccabi Haifa team is 5-2 and currently is ranked 36th in Europe, according to the “Top 100” ranking on Eurobasket.com.
Maccabi Haifa, owned by Jeffrey Rosen of Aventura, FL, (through his Triangle Financial Services firm), was the surprise runner-up in the Israeli Basketball Super League last season. This year’s team features a number of US players, including Davon Jefferson of Southern California; Todd Golden, a former St. Mary’s College of California product; Jason Rich, a Florida State University standout; Jesse Pellot-Rosa of Virginia Commonwealth; and former San Diego High phenom Jeremy Tyler.
The program is hosted by Israeli actress and model Becky Griffin, and produced on location by Joseph Marc Sports (which produces shows including Yankees Magazine, Nets Magazine, and Inside Rutgers Football).
Comcast Versus is home to the NHL, the YES Network is home of the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets, SUN Sports is home of the Miami Heat and Jewish Life Television (JLTV) is seen nationally via DirecTV and on select Time Warner Cable systems including New York and Los Angeles.
