Iranian soccer federation mistakenly greets Israel
An Iranian soccer federation official has reportedly resigned after sending New Year’s greetings to Israel.
The head of the league’s foreign relations office, Mohammad-Manour Azimzadeh, resigned over the gaffe, and the president of the Iran Football Federation apologized, according to reports.
The foreign relations office sent New Year’s greetings to all members of FIFA, soccer’s global federation, and forgot to leave the soccer federation of Israel, which is called the “Zionist entity,” off the list.
Israel’s soccer federation replied positively to the message, according to reports.
Iranian athletes do not compete against Israeli athletes, including in the Olympics.
