Whither Ryan Sadowski?
Remember this guy? He started like a house afire in his Major League debut with the San Francisco Giants last summer.
Sadowski was brilliant in his first two games, winning both on the strength of 13 scoreless innings in which he gave up just seven hits. But it was all downhill from there: in his next four starts — all losses — he allowed 14 runs in 15 1/3 innings. What a turnaround. He was banished to the minors and ultimately designated for assignment.
The 27-year-old righty seemed to have a new lease on his professional life when the Houston Astros signed him to a minor league contract on Dec. 8. But just two weeks later, they let him out of the deal to allow him to sign with the Lotte Giants in the Korean Baseball Organization.
As far as I know, Richie Scheinblum is the only other MOT to play in Asia (Hiroshima Carp, 1975-76).
Update: Bob Wechsler, author of Day by Day in Jewish Sports History (KTAV), wrote to remind us that Gabe Kapler played part of the 2005 season for the Yomiuri Giants and Micah Franklin, who appeared in 17 1ames for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997, also had a taste with the Nippon Ham Fighters of the Pacific League and the Hanshin Tigers in the Central League from 1999-2000.

Ron,
Micah Franklin played in Japan in 1999 and 2000.
And don’t forget Gabe Kapler’s 30-some games with the Yomiuri Giants.
We all know Jews love Chinese food, but I’m not sure on Korean.
Thanks, Bob. You have to admit, though, it’s easy to forget Micah Franklin. Too bad he had just the one season.
