Russ Rose’s CV:

Rose, 2007 inductee into the AVCA Hall of Fame, owns a career record of 1,001-159 for a .863 winning percentage to be the winningest active Division I volleyball coach. After guiding the Nittany Lions to their 13th overall and seventh consecutive Big Ten Championship in 2009, Rose garnered his 11th Big Ten Coach of the Year award. Other notes on Rose include, coaching PSU to 29 NCAA Tournament appearances, coaching 19 conference players of the year in the last 24 years and having at least one AVCA All-American in 30 of his 31 seasons.

Other inductees for the class of 2010 include lympic swimmer Jason Lezak, Virginia Tech basketball coach Seth Greenberg and professional football player and wrestler Bill Goldberg. An induction ceremony will be held on April 18, at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack, N.Y., the home of The Hall of Fame. For more information, visit www.Jewishsports.org.

  • I know volleyball isn’t usually a thought of as a sport that garners much national attention, but you just have to take notice of Rose’s record and accomplishments. Absolutely incredible. Congrats to him and the other HOF inductees.

  • Having played volleyball in school — and still bearing the knee scars — I can assure you it is a sport, and worthy of just as much attention as lacrosse or field hockey or any other “second tier” event.
