Kosher Komponent at Yankees Fantasy Camp, take 2

Ira Jaskoll, the de facto den mother of the Jewish campers at YFC, was back for the January session. Here are his brief remarks:

The January Fantasy Camp was great. We had five kosher camper including me. They also brought guests for the weekend/shabbos. My son Yoni came with two friends to make the minyan. A different son of Rabbi Rifkin came with his wife and two baby daughters which added to the Shabbat atmosphere. Irwin Cohen did not come. Marty Appel came back to speak Friday night with Ron Blomberg and Jesse Barfeld also joined us and spoke. Homer Bush also came for a few minutes. We had the Kosher Dream Game on Wednesday which worked well since we were not as rushed. All the Yankee Legends played including David Wells who pitched. We tied 0-0 which is a victory. Everyone was great to us and everyone had a great time as we are now part of the Fantasy Camp. Next year they are only planning one Kosher camp in November 2010.

The weather was much colder at first but warmed up as the week went along, but it was not as warm as November. Jesse added to Ron’s discussion of discrimination in baseball when they played.

Thanks for playing with us, your great blogs and article and all your help and support. Spread the word for next year.

Yoni Jaskoll, at 20, was too young to play, so they missed that father-son bonding-over-baseball experience.

Cohen, a sportswriter from Detroit, spoke about his experiences in the press box at the November session.

Jesse Barfield, center, and Ira Jaskoll, far right, were back for the January session of Yankees Fantasy Camp.
