Mazel tov, Steve Mesler
Mesler was a member of the U.S. bobsled (bobsleigh?) team that took the Gold Medal on Saturday.
I’d be interested in an explanation of why driver receives top billing: “ Steven Holcomb’s USA 1 won the United States’ first Olympic bobsleigh gold…” etc. Granted, the two guys in the middle don’t really seem to be “doing” much, at least to the uniformed eye. I guess it’s just one of the quirks of the sport.

No, it’s blatant anti-Semitism, Ron. Just kidding of course, but I’m glad we found a Jewish gold medalist, especially given the dearth of representation at the games. Speaking of the Olympics, that was one hell of a gold medal hockey game. Thought we had them when the game was forced to OT, but it’s a coinflip from there really. U.S. did stand toe to toe though, and if anything I thought they were actually the slightly better team. Oh well, maybe we’ll get them in 2014. At least, I still have witnessed one U.S. gold in hockey in my lifetime, but alas I was only 4 at the time. Finally, one of these days maybe Israel will show up in the hockey tournament. I know they’re trying to get hockey going in the country, but it’s an uphill battle, given the environment, and the fact that they have more important things to worry about. Still, there are an influx of Jews from the former Soviet Union with hockey experience and both the U.S. and Canada do run hockey clinics there from time to time.
