Frankly, I was stunned. I looked at ESPN.com earlier and saw Team USA was down 2-0 to Slovenia in their World Cup match. I looked a moment ago and was pleasantly surprised to see they came back and tied the game, which means they’re still in it.
But depending on which opening headline you read, the U.S. either did a great job in the comeback, (ESPN.com: “Well Drawn: The U.S. kept its World Cup hopes alive with a big comeback against Slovenia to earn a wild 2-2 tie”) or was robbed by poor officiating (“U.S 2, Slovenia 2, Referee 0,” SI.com). To be fair, ESPN does note the spurious call, but seems to be more interested in celebrating the draw, rather than complaining about not winning.
By the way, Benny Feilhaber managed to get some playing time in the game. Not so for the other two MOTs on the squad, Jonathan Bornstein and Jonathan Spector.
