JML update: Games of Sept. 6
No sooner do the Mets put up their best offensive performance in ages then they gag and have one of their worst games.
Ike Davis was 0-2 with two walks in the 13-3 loss to the Nationals. The day before, when the Mets trounced the Cubs, 18-5, he was 4-6 with a double, a homer run (no. 17) and three RBIs. Mike Silva’s New York Baseball Digest ponders what the team should do: keep or trade. Sounds like Let’s Make a Deal.
Jason Marquis didn’t get into that game for the Nationals, but he had a great week nonetheless, picking up his first two wins of the season. Unfortunately, it looks like his string of being on a post-season team — which began in his debut campaign 10 years ago — has come to an end.
Danny Valencia (Twins) missed his third straight game, coming out of Friday’s 4-3 win over the Rangers after tweaking a hamstring. He had only knocked 10 hits in his previous 16 at bats.
Ryan Braun (Brewers) was 2-4 with a walk in an 8-6 loss to the Cards.
Brad Ausmus (Dodgers) was 0-2 with a walk in a 4-2 loss to the Padres.
Ian Kinsler (Rangers) was 1-5 out of the lead-off spot, as Texas lost to Toronto, 7-2. Scott Feldman comes of the DL to start tonight’s game, as the Rangers try to break a four-game losing streak. He hasn’t pitched since Aug. 21 and hasn’t started a game since July 24.
Craig Breslow (A’s) have up a walk, a hit, and a run in .1 innings, but Oakland nevertheless beat the Mariners, 6-2.
Over and out: Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) may not be making any hits on the field, but he sure is making them off, in the spirit of tikun olam, saving the world. John Grabow (Cubs) is also out for the year, but Gabe Kapler (Rays) might make it back yet.
