Vikings’ loss is Giant gain
As you probably heard by now, Sage Rosenfels has been acquired by the New York Giants. He and punt/potential kick returner Darius Reynaud came over from the Minnesota Vikings in return for a fifth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012.
From yesterday’s NY Post:
Rosenfels met Coughlin on Saturday, took a physical and made an immediate request: “I need that playbook.” Once he started turning the pages he realized this wasn’t going to be easy, even for a 32-year old, 10-year veteran who has previously played for four different NFL teams.
“The verbiage is completely different than anything I’ve been in, and that’s going to be the challenge,” Rosenfels said. “Basically, I’ll be learning a foreign language. I’ll do everything to make that foreign language to be my first language.”
In one of those under-the-radar moves that define leadership, Manning jumped to action, instantly inviting Rosenfels over to his house, where they watched Manning’s Ole Miss team get upset by Jacksonville State as they began forging a relationship.
“I’ve met him a few times at different functions over the years,” Rosenfels said. “I know his brother [Peyton] better just from playing that division when I was in Houston. I’m going to try to help [Eli] as best I can but first I have to learn the offense so I can help him and help the team if the team needs me.”
The plan is for the team not to need Rosenfels, at least not on the field Sunday against the Panthers in the season opener.
Maybe Rosenfels will actually get to touch the ball in a real game this year.
"Here you go, Brett. Lotsa luck."
