Mish-mosh
An occasional roundup of items that fell through the cracks.
- It’s only a passing comment, but JagsReport.com, a site devoted to the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL, posted a recap of the past season. Among the good stuff, “The entire Jaguars’ special teams unit deserves the highest props. This truly was a special unit; not only in punt and kickoff coverage, but in the return game, as well as the kicking game. Deji Karim averaged 25 yards per kick return and single-handedly put the Jaguars in position to beat the Raiders. Kassim Osgood and Montell Owens may be the best gunners in the league. Josh Scobee, despite cooling off later in the year, enjoyed a fine season, as did punter Adam Podlesh.” The Jags finished 8-8, second in the AFC South Division.
- Just make sure you spell my name right: Marc Trestman, the head coach for the CFL-Champion Montreal Alouettes, became a cultural icon by having his name mentioned in the hit comedy 30 Rock.
- I don’t care what you say, it’s not “football,” it’s soccer! Another list of prominent Jewish athletes, from Sabotage Times (Motto: “We can’t concentrate so why should you?”). Surprisingly comprehensive, especially for a Brit outfit.
- A few weeks ago, I was honored to be interview by Ari Louis and Andy Gershman at Jewish Sports Radio, the only English-language sports talk show in Israel. Here’s a profile on the program via Ha’aretz.
Once again, our thanks to chaver Ari for the great leads.
