“The Angel of Stern”

That’s the nickname Pardon the Interruption co-host Tony Kornheiser bestowed upon the NBA commissioner in recognition of his omniscience. David Stern has been known to lay down exceedingly heavy fines for those who cross him by expressing an opinion or simply by displaying what he perceives as a negative attitude. Mark Cuban, the loquacious owner of the Dallas Mavericks (and fellow Jew) seems to be a particular target.

Is it a Napoleanic thing? A small old Jewish guys lost in the forest of giant athletes? Not gonna get all psychoanalytic here, but just sayin.’

Anyway, Bethlehem Shoals, ne Nathaniel Friedman, published this profile of Stern on Tablet today. Shoals/Friedman is a founding member of the basketball writers’ collective FreeDarko.com and co-author of the Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History (highly entertaining and recommended).

"Shut up," he explained.
