MOTs Madness

Not so lots of MOTs in the NCAA tournament.

Here’s a list of players and coaches, via Brian ‘Shifty’ Schiff on the Jewish Coaches Association website. I have amended his editorial comments with additional statistics, scheduling notes and links.

Bryan Cohen, Bucknell (25-8, 13-1 Patriot Conference; 14th seed in the West Regionals)
Cohen, a junior, won an unprecedented 2nd straight Patriot Defensive Player of the Year Award, started all 33 games averaging 27.9 minutes, 7 points, 4 rebounds, and shot .429 percent from 3-point land. Bucknell takes on No. 3 Connecticut (26-9, 9-9 Big East) tomorrow in Washington DC. Tipoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m.

Jordan Weiner, UC Santa Barbara ((18-13, 8-8 Big West; 15th seed in the Southeast Regionals)
Weiner, a senior, started 18 of 31 games, averaged 21.2 minutes, 5.5 points, and 1.7 rebounds. UCSB faces No. 2 Florida (26-7, 13-3 SEC) tomorrow at 6:50 in DC.

Nate Lubick, Georgetown (21-10, 10-8 Big East; sixth seed in the Southwest Regionals)
Lubick, a freshman, played in 31 games (12 starts), averaging 19.4 minutes, 4.2 points, and 3.5 rebounds. Georgetown will play the winner of tonight’s USC vs. Virginia Commonwealth tomorrow at 9:50 p.m. in Chicago.

Steven Pearl, Tennessee (19-14, 8-8 SEC; ninth seed in West Regionals)
A Senior, Pearl — son of Volunteers embattled coach Bruce Pearl — played in 33 games (one start) and averaged 11.4 minutes, 1.9 points, and 1.5 rebounds. Tennessee takes on Michigan (20-13, 9-9 Big Ten; eighth seed), on Friday at 12:40 p.m. in Charlotte.

Josh Bartelstein, Michigan
Bartelstein, a sophomore , played in 10 games averaging 1.8 minutes. See Pearl’s entry for details about Michigan’s opening game.

Brandon Reese, Syracuse (26-7, 12-6 Big East; Third seed, East Regionals)
Reese, a junior, played in 9 games and averaged 1.2 points. Syracuse faces Indiana State (20-13, 12-6 MVC; 14th seed) on Friday at 9:57 (!) p.m. in Cleveland.

Coaches:
Bruce Pearl, Head Coach, Tennessee

Josh Pastner, Head Coach, Memphis
(25-9, 10-6 C-USA; 12th seed West Regionals). Memphis takes on Arizona (27-7, 14-4 Pac-10; fifth seed) on Friday at 2:45 p.m. in Tulsa.

Keith Dambrot, Head Coach, Akron
(23-12, 9-7 MAC; #15th seed, Southwest Regionals). Akron takes on Notre Dame (26-6, 14-4 Big East) on Friday at 1:40 p.m. in Chicago.

Bernie Fine, Associate Head Coach,  Syracuse

Larry Shyatt, Associate Head Coach, Florida

Scott Garson, Assistant Coach, UCLA
(22-10, 13-5 Pac-10;  seventh seed, Southeast Regionals). UCLA faces Michigan State (19-14, 9-9 Big Ten; 10th seed) tomorrow at 9:20 p.m. in Tampa.

Jason Donnelly, Assistant Coach, Villanova
(21-11, 9-9 Big East; ninth seed, East Regionals). Villanova faces George Mason (26-6, 16-2 CAA; eighth seed) Friday at 2:10 p.m. in Cleveland.

Ross Condon, Assistant Coach and  Adam Fisher, Director of Basketball Operations, Boston University
(21-13, 12-4 Am. East; 16th seed, Southwest Regionals). BU faces Kansas University (32-2, 14-2 Big 12) Friday at 6:50 p.m. in Tulsa.

Scott Greenman, Assistant Director of Basketball Operations, Georgetown
