Not the game between the Lions and Bears (Tigers were playing baseball, oh my), which Detroit won 24-13 to start their season 5-0 for the first time since 1956. No, what I really tuned in for was to see how they would open the show, now that Hank Williams’ theme-video was no longer an option. He was canned following remarks he made on Fox & Friends in which he compared Obama to Hitler.
Williams first apologized for the comments, then wrote “Keep the Change,” a conservative “protest song”, which includes the lyrics, “Yea, you can keep Fox & Friends and ESPN outta your homes too / Cause Bocephus and all his rowdy friends & song is outta there!!!” (Bocephus is a nickname bestowed upon the singer by his dad.)
So much for apologies.
I don’t want to be accused of taking anything out of context, so you can listen to the whole song via this link to a USA Today story.
Anyway, I tuned in specifically to see the new MNF intro. I hope it’s just a temporary thing, because that was really boring, sort of a lite version of those NFL Films in which the narrator with the stentorian voice praised the two competitors with proud traditions over dramatic music.
By the way, Adam Podlesh made five punts for 221 yards (44.2 average, 55 long). Offensive lineman Gabe Carmini was inactive for the game.
